HEREFORDSHIRE PEOPLE
Because of the growth of interest in family history many sources for research into Herefordshire’s people are now online and the Club is not inyending to duplicate this material, nor to publish specific family histories.
For example, for each Herefordshire parish images of its tithe map and apportionment plus indexes to the owners and occupiers are available by subscription from The Genealogist website. It is possible to search tithe apportionments by parish and owner or occupier for free from the Herefordshire through Time website but the original maps are not available to view so that the location of the plot concerned cannot be obtained. The original documents are available at the Herefordshire archives and the National Archives.
Images may be available on Herefordshire History, a website run by Herefordshire Council, from which material can be downloaded for a small charge, used to fund further work on the website.
References to Herefordshire’s people occur throughout the Woolhope Club’s publications, although often not specifically indexed in earlier editions. Reference to specific names (e.g. on a map) may occur in pages on this website, but it not be practical to index all occurrences. The best strategy is to begin by entering a name into the search engine and then widening the search to a parish if that proves fruitless.
In their researches Club members often come across lists of people that are not available online and are able to contribute images and/or transcriptions of the material to the website. These may include photographs of village functions or a pew lists. When is added to the website, some keywords (e.g. parish, date if known) will be attached to the material to help in finding it. Please be aware that searching any material of around the right date may be fruitful. Error in transcription of handwritten material can occur, and It is not possible to guarantee the accuracy of all transcriptions.
All material is copyright of the contributor and their permission must be sought before any reproduction is made. Enquiries can be made by email to the website manager.
