The Woolhope Club ....
... has its headquarters in the Woolhope Room in Hereford City
Library. The library building (whose future is at the moment under
discussion) is itself worthy of a second and even a third look. It
was built by James Rankin in 1870 and is a worthy
representative of its age. The squirrels (below) are just two of the
many stone animals which can be found on the front facing the Cathedral.
| Other carvings represent animals from around the world, signs of the Zodiac and flowers throughout the year. |

The county has a strong farming tradition; there are still many houses and farm buildings constructed with the local sandstone, with limestone used for poorer buildings. Oak grows well here, and was used extensively for the timber framing for 'black and white' buildings. |
