Where is the Woolhope Library
The Woolhope Library is on the first floor of Hereford Library off the stairs to the Museum, in the Woolhope Room.
The Librarians
The two librarians are Jacqueline Jonson (01432 840694) and Gwilym Rees (01568 615674). They are in the library on Thursdays.
Opening Hours
The library is open to the general public on Thursdays between
11.00 a.m. and 14.30 p.m. when the two librarians are in attendance. Members may
use the library and borrow books any time during Hereford Library opening hours,
so long as the Woolhope Room is not being used by the Museum or other
organisations. There is a diary in the cabinet by the door showing when the
room is booked.
The keys must be collected from the Library Enquiry desk
at the foot of the stairs in the library and signed for in the book.
The keys will not be released without the production of a current membership
card.
Books
The Library holds a good selection of local and national history books, stored in locked glass fronted cabinets. They are all listed in the library catalogue, which consists of a card index of author and subject.
How to Borrow Books
Only Woolhope members can borrow books. Books can be borrowed for six months. To borrow write your name and book details in the booking out ledger. On Thursdays this will be in the Woolhope Library, on other days it is with the Library Enquiry desk, along with the keys to the Woolhope Room. On any day other than Thursday you must collect the loaning book and keys from the Main Desk (on production of your current membership card) in the library and return them afterwards.
Manuscripts
The Woolhope Club holds a number of early manuscripts. They are listed in their own section in the catalogue and stored in boxes. They may only be consulted when the librarians are in attendance (on Thursdays) or by prior arrangement with the librarians.
